Down Rigging Deep and Neat

I’ve often found that fishing for deep holding and suspended walleye or lake trout requires some down rigging equipment. But, there are only certain times of the year where this equipment is needed to get down to 45 feet or more. So, I needed an easy way to add and remove down rigger equipment in my 16 foot boat. Placing this equipment in a small boat is often difficult because of thin gunnels or no support for the downrigger mounts.

Scotty came to the rescue with their downrigger board mounting system. This board is easily cut to any length to fit most boats. The versa ball universal mounts included with the kit allows you to attach the board to almost any gunnels or deck and the board removes or attaches to the boat quickly with your basic thumb screws.
Another advantage to this system is that down riggers and accessories from any manufacture mount to the board without having to drill holes in your boat to add or change equipment. The board also raises the equipment to a level that makes it comfortable to operate the down riggers and rods from a standing position.

Another Scotty accessory that saves you from putting lots of holes in your boat is the Scotty Triple Rod Holder. This device keeps all your rods neat when stacking lines on one downrigger or running multiple rods with planer boards and divers. Plus, it allows three rods to be held by a single mount.

So, when the walleyes and lake trout start to head for the deep, I easily mount my down rigging equipment to the boat and head out for a day of great fishing.
